A painting from my first trip to Trinidad. The brightly colored tanager had competition from the large cocoa pods.

While in Costa Rica, I got to spend most of a day in a birding tower. While up there, a particular Cecropia tree became a prime perch for a variety of birds, including this Toucan.

This Ruby-throated Hummingbird was hiding among the huge leaves of a Catalpa Tree. Only when the sunlight hit it's bright red throat did I spot it.

Blackburnian Warblers painted for the May/June 2004 Bird Watcher's Digest. I placed them in their favorite habitat, a Hemlock Tree.

Painted after a long cold winter hike where the only signs of life was these two Black-capped Chickadees.

Originally painted for the November / December 2002 Bird Watchers Digest. The painting shows a roosting Great Horned Owl getting ready to begin it's hunt.

This scene was literally across the street from me in my neighbor's yard. This Red-shouldered Hawk was hidden until I saw it's dramatic shadow on the trunk of the Oak tree. The Gibbous moon was rising in the background.

Every year I look forward to early march on my local pond when the Ring-necked Ducks arrive on their way to their northern nesting grounds. Their stark black and while pattern really stands out from the murky pond.

Painted for the August 2001 Bird Watcher's Digest, this scene depicts Atlantic Puffins sitting quietly on their nesting site on Michias Seal Island.

Back in 2000, we took a trip to the Neolithic henge and stone circle in Orkney, Scotland called the Ring of Brodgar. I placed a flying Curlew with the 4500 year old stones in the background.
